Australian Museum’s Indigenous Australian Galleries

What other country would showcase a model of its national opera house moulded from sea shells? Giant crabs woven from ghostnets crawl up the wall and a ghostnet fish gulps through the air space. I collaborated with the curator and designer for each label and text panel to match the story of the objects on show with the main themes: education through craftsmanship is passed down through generations, sustainability is a natural way of life, and there’s no one Aboriginal story. I took great care to ensure Aboriginal terms were consistently used and the tone matched the refreshed mood and visual ease of these new-look galleries.
