Europe on a Shoestring

Lonely Planet nominated me from a pool of 40 staff to coordinate this guide ‘brick’ of a book. Forty authors sprinkled across the globe covered 50 countries. I piloted the workflow to sidestep delays when maps went astray, authors missed submission dates and contractors needed my understanding. I motivated authors, edited, allocated chapters and maps, made style decisions, provided progress reports to publishing staff, sourced images, completed layout checks and kept the momentum going on this six-month project. To reward myself for finishing it? I went to New York.

From the publisher: ‘Melissa seeks to engage with the material she works on at a deeper level than is absolutely necessary and goes the extra mile in order to produce the best work she can.’
